Cue Nature
A poem and photo essay
We forge paths through bramble
meander at a snail’s pace
We pluck cattails
chase ducks
plunk rocks into brackish riverbeds
Cicadas rattle
Water hums
We flit and twitter like the hummingbird
grazing pollened petals
here and then gone
here and gone
We climb thick, gnarled branches
rest in dappled shade
Grit in our teeth, our hair, our souls
We crunch shells
stack sticks
scoop sand
Gorged on nature, dirt-flecked, gorgeous
We ebb and flow likes waves
lapping
lapping
lapping
Fully ourselves
together

Aly, this was a beautiful poem. The sensory details make the place come alive to the reader, like we are there with you. My favorite lines: “grit in our teeth, our hair, our souls / We crunch[...]”. So good.
Beautiful!! I want to go here with you!
